의지 Will

There is no chance, no destiny, no fate,

Can circumvent or hinder or control
The firm resolve of a determined soul.
Gifts count for nothing; will alone is great;
All things give way before it, soon or late.

우리 모두 '만재홀수선 Plimsoll Line'을 가지고 있다는 점을 명심하자. 1880년, 영국의 새뮤얼 필림솔은 과도한 짐을 실은 배가 바다에 빠지는 문제를 해결하고자 씨름했다. 그는 모든 영국 배의 선체에 하나의 선을 그리자는 법안을 의회에 제출했다. 배에 짐을 실을 때 그 선에 물이 올라오면 더 이상 싣지 못하도록 규제하는 법안이었다. 그 선이 바로 만재홀수선이다.
